Mike Napoli’s go-ahead two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning led the Rangers to a 4-2 win over the Cardinals in Game Five of the World Series to take the 3-2 series lead.
The Cardinals had taken a 2-0 lead in last night’s game which was quickly erased by solo shots from Mitch Moreland and Adrian Beltre in the win.
Ron Washington and the Rangers are now just one win away from their first World Series title in franchise history.
St. Louis had plenty of opportunities to make a comeback however they stranded 12 men on base including two different bases loaded situations.
Many will say that an 8th inning blonder by the Cardinals bullpen possibly caused last night’s collapse. Following Game 5 St. Louis manager Tony La Russa explained the costly mix up that led to Lance Lynn entering the game instead of Jason Motte in the eighth inning.
Game six will feature Cardinals’ pitcher Jaime Garcia versus the Rangers’ Colby Lewis.
First pitch from St. Louis is scheduled for tomorrow at 8:05pm.
