Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester has confirmed reports of clubhouse drinking by him and some of his fellow pitchers. The left-hander told the “Boston Globe” it was the wrong thing to do.
The “Globe” reported last week that Lester, Josh Beckett and John Lackey drank beer, ordered fried chicken and played video games on days they didn’t pitch instead of watching games from the dugout.
The lack of control within the clubhouse by manager Terry Francona helped lead to his departure after the team’s historic September collapse in which Boston squandered a nine-game Wild Card lead.
