Georgia Mom Sues Girl Scouts After Daughters Kicked Out
GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. (CBS Atlanta) — The Girl Scouts motto is “Be Prepared,” but one Georgia mother wasn’t prepared for her daughters to be kicked out.
Angela Johnson of Gwinnett County is suing the Girls Scouts of Greater Atlanta because she feels her daughters were expelled without any warning. She filed a lawsuit claiming intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligence.
The 10-year-old twins were in the Girl Scouts for four years prior to their expulsion. The troop emailed Johnson earlier this year saying that they felt the girls seemed unenthusiastic about being in the Girl Scouts.
Johnson said that she felt that was code for her daughters not being welcomed there anymore.
She added that she was never given a specific reason of why they were suddenly ejected.
The Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta issued a statement saying, “We believe this is a disagreement between two well-intentioned moms and are anxious to resolve the matter.”
Group officials say the girls can return to their previous troop, transfer to another one, or start a new troop.
