ATLANTA (CBS Atlanta) – Buying the wrong ticket made one Georgia woman a millionaire.

Kathy Scruggs, a 44-year-old unemployed woman, won the $25 million Powerball jackpot on Sept. 14 by mistake.

Scruggs, who had been looking for work since her job ended in the spring, didn’t originally buy the winning lottery ticket.

“I asked for a Mega Millions ticket, and the lady gave me a Powerball ticket,” Scruggs told the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “I just took it anyway.”

The Lithonia woman didn’t realize what happened until the next day.

“We were screaming and hollering, and everybody came running,” she told the paper. “I could not believe it.”

The new millionaire tells the paper that she plans on buying a car and helping her family out.

“I’m going to build my mom and grandmother a home. That’s my first focus,” she told the Journal Constitution.

Scruggs also plans to start a foundation to help the homeless.
