Atlanta (WAOK)-The principal at Riverwood International Charter School in Fulton County has resigned from his post after school officials said a routine audit showed that a school-issued American Express card was inappropriately used.

Fulton County spokeswoman Samantha Evans stated that there was no evidence that principal, Eddie Echols, broke the law.

But the audit, released by Fulton County Schools, revealed that Echols used the credit card to make both personal and school related purchases resulting in a misuse of several thousand dollars during the 2008-2009 school year.

In a letter to investigators, Echols stated that he paid the charges right back also revealing that he had encounter financial difficulty, a likely reason for the personal expenses.

Evans said the district has assigned an interim principal to the school and that the search for a permanent replacement is under way.
