Mother and Driver at Fault in Baby Death

Atlanta (WAOK)-Gwinnett police investigators are trying to decide if any charges will be filed in the death of a 13 month old child over the weekend. Police said Monday a mother pushing a stroller and the driver of a backing SUV may be “equally at fault” in the collision that killed the child on Sunday.

According to a police department press release, Tekila Glass, 30, of Riverdale, was backing a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica through the parking lot at Lenora Park on Lenora Church Road near Snellville when her vehicle struck a stroller pushed by the mother of 13 month old Olivia Hellwig, of Grayson.

Police said the mother, “pushed Olivia out from in between two legally parked vehicles into the path of Ms. Glass as she was backing her vehicle. Ms. Glass was unable to avoid collision and struck Olivia in her stroller.”

The child later died after being transported to Egleston Hospital in Atlanta.
