Atlanta (WAOK)-Pack your patience if you plan to go to the Falcons game at the Georgia Dome Sunday. Due to several recent incidents of fighting between fans the NFL says extra security will be in place at the Falcons’ home opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, the team said Friday.
The additional security measures have not been outlined, however be prepared for possible pat-downs and a more extensive search of bags than usual.
The NFL suggested all fans be patted down from the ankles to the knees and from the waist up before the start of the season according to the USA Today .
A fan was recently arrested after taking a Taser into the Cowboys and Jets game last week. Three people were slightly injured.
“We encourage fans to arrive early and be patient about entering the stadium,” Falcons CEO and team president Rich McKay said in a statement. “The enhanced security procedures upon entry recommended by the NFL will further ensure the safety of fans, but will require some additional time for inspections at the gates. We hope fans will come early, enjoy our tailgating opportunities, and take advantage of the fan friendly amenities inside of the Georgia Dome.”
Parking lots will open at 3 p.m. Sunday and the gates at the Dome will open at 6 p.m. Game time is at 8:20 p.m.
