The Jacksonville Jaguars have released veteran quarterback David Garrard.
Garrard missed the preseason opener because of a sore back, a game where I clearly remember him being interviewed on the sideline and the reporter asked him about Blaine Gabbert’s progression in camp…
Wrong thing to do or shall I say it became another example of when keeping it real goes wrong!
Garrard’s comments went something like this:
“He doing well but he’s a rookie. You can’t just hand him the keys to this franchise and say steer us to a championship. Down the road he’ll be one of the best but right now he still has lots of work to do.”
How much work is now the question?
Luke McCown is expected to start the opener this Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.
So I’m guessing maybe another week or so and we’ll see Blaine Gabbert as the new face of the Jacksonville franchise.
Garrard’s record as a starter is 39-37-0 with 16,003 yards and 89 touchdowns all with the Jaguars. The decision to part ways with the QB will save the team around $9 million this season.
The good news is that according to Garrard’s agent there have been 3-4 teams that have inquired about possibly signing him.
Things could always be worse…
You could always be in denial like a washed up 36 year-old running back who’s name rhymes with Sneaky Harbor.
