Atlanta (WAOK)-Atlanta voters will get a chance to decide if they would like to buy alcohol on Sundays in November. Georgia is one of only three states in the nation that does not allow retail alcohol sales on Sunday. On Tuesday, the City Council voted 9-2 to put an initiative on the Nov. 8 ballot.
Atlanta joins 13 other cities in Gwinnett County and 3 cities in Cobb County that will give taxpayers the option of choosing if they want to buy alcohol on Sundays during the November election.
Cities and counties without 2011 elections likely will have to wait until next year to vote on the issue.
Gov. Nathan Deal signed Senate Bill 10 into law in April. The bill allows communities to give voters the opportunity to decide on Sunday alcohol sales.
