Reporting Lorraine Jacques-White

On today’s Powertalk w/ Lorraine Jacques White, Rev. Markel Hutchins called in to state his position and purpose in suing the Johnston family. For those who don’t know, Kathryn Johnston was the 92 year old woman who was killed in her home by Atlanta police officers. Rev. Markell Hutchins took on their case as a family spokesperson, but now that monies have been paid… all hell has broken loose!

“I had an expressed agreement. I could not in good conscious put a contract in their face,” stated Hutchins, “But when you go to work for someone, and you perform a task, and you do it in excellence, you are obligated to pay them!”

Hutchins also claims that the agreement assured him a 10% “tithe” payout when the recovery was secured. He has not talked to the Johnston family or the Cochran firm since.

Listen to the conversation below and see if you agree with his pursuit:

Ambulance chaser, I would not pay him a dime either..Where does he get off asking for a tithe of 10% as if this is a church obligation? This is why I stay away from all these so called religious organizations because you will be knifed in the back quicker by on of these holy rollers that a heathen…

  • Brian Parker

A man who goes to work, does his job with maximum success, deserves to be paid pure and simple. If it was not for Markel’s efforts the settlement along with the convictions of the guilty parties might not have ever happened. The civil right thing to do is to pay a person for their work…

  • ljawrites

I don’t think this is the Christian thing to do. As my boyfriend asks, what happened to forgiveness of “debts”? If you truly are a Christian and following the teachings of Jesus Christ, you should forgive others of their debts like God forgives you of yours.

  • Robert

I was involved in a high profile situation where I initiated and gave good directives to a family in need, who in turn offered to “give me something” for my time once things settled. Needless to say, I secured two of the largest attorneys known to the U.S. and millions of dollars were won, but at the end of the toiling days I endured, the family reniged on their oral promises, the lawyers took 20%, (remember, I retained them) and I walked away broken, not bitter because people when they get money become monstrous if not grounded, so I walked away and they lost a good person.

Robert, i have to say i agree with you. If in fact Mr. Hutchins did have an oral agreement- then the family should have given him something because to my knowlegde the media was out to make that family look like a bunch of uneducated, illiterate fools that were drug abusers themselves and had extensive questionable pasts. If the Cochran firm got theirs why should he not get something? It was him that challenged the police force and it was his voice that spoke on behalf of this dead woman, and her family. The tragedy with this story is how we as black people will stab each other in the back for a dollar each and every time. White America just sits back and laugh at the poor Negros who will sell each other out over a dollar, sell each other dope over a dollar, vote us under the ground for a dollar, and wont patronize each other for the fear of one of us having one dollar more than the other…………………………..

Robert, these people will be broke by the end of next year…..watch and see, because you do not bite the hand that feeds you!

  • David Chastain Blanchard

Robert I do not believe your post at all. An intelligent person is going to secure a written contract. As for Markel, he is a known liar, crook and charlatan. He is such a lying opportunist we may never know what really happened.

  • David Chastain Blanchard

HELLO MARKEL BRIAN PARKER HUTCHINS! LMAO!

  • David Chastain Blanchard

And the Christian to do ljawrites is that you and your boyfriend do not fornicate. (+:

Is Markel Hutchins of the same persuasion as Eddie Long? I sense it. Get my drift?
