Suspicious Package Shuts Down Midtown

ATLANTA (WAOK)-It was definitely an interesting start to work on Tuesday morning for all of the employees at WAOK and our sister stations V-103 and Dave-FM. Traffic report Crash Clark informed everyone that the area had been locked down because of a suspicious box left on the street in front of an office building a block away from our Colony Square address. After close to two hours, the box was retrieved by the Atlanta Police Department’s bomb squad robot , and detonated.

APD released this statement:

This morning at approximately 9:00 AM the Atlanta Police Department responded to the intersection of Peachtree St. and 14th Street on a suspicious package call. Upon arrival, officers observed a small box left unattended. We immediately blocked off surrounding streets to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. We called out AFR and our SWAT Unit for assistance. After careful investigation the SWAT Unit detonated the box without incident. Nothing was found to be in the box. The owner and origin of the box is unknown. All streets have been reopened.

(Actually we understand the box turned out to be filled with plastic trash bags).
