ATLANTA (WAOK)-Beginning Monday if you need medical treatment but have no insurance, you will have another alternative. Grady Hospital will open a new walk-in clinic Monday to offer treatment for colds, cuts and other minor ailments.

The new clinic will be located down the street from Grady Hospital at  56 Jesse Hill Jr. Drive in Atlanta and will provide patients who would normally have to wait in the emergency room for 10 hours or more a place to be seen much quicker. The new facility cost $1 million to open.

Grady officials say the hospital visit will still begin in the emergency room but after a screening to evaluate the severity of the illness a patient will be given the choice of going to the walk-in clinic. Care will be much quicker and less expensive.

If the program is successful, it could save Grady and the community millions of dollars.

The walk-in clinic will cost $50 per visit and will be staffed by nurse practitioners and physician assistants.  The Grady Walk-In Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday.
