On last Friday night the Atlanta Falcons hosted the Miami Dolphins for their first pre-season game.  Although they lost the game 28-23 there was many positive highlights for the Falcons.  Now of course you could never take a pre-season game but so serious, and this is coming off a lockout shortened off-season, but there are some things that you can continue to look for as going in the right direction.

Defensively, without free agency signee Ray Edwards on hand due to his recovery from injury, they looked crisp, and attacking.  Brent Grimes looks as if he is already In Pro Bowl form and it appears that some of those past draft picks like Peria Jerry, Sean Witherspoon, and even Lawrence Sidbury are looking to become impact players this year, all great signs.

Offensively, I believe there was something to look out for.  The Falcons highly touted draft pick Julio Jones was the highlight of the evening, catching several early passes, running a reverse, and looking like the receiver that they wanted for explosive plays.  However, hidden within was what our producer Big Mike calls an “Identity Crisis”.

This simply means if you compare the very first offensive series where there were several incompletions based on the attempt to get Jones involved early to the second series where they established the run then mixed in the pass, you can see what the Falcons Blueprint for Success should be.  I hope they do not fall in love with the new Playstation so much that they forget about the train that got them here.
