ATLANTA (WAOK)-Fulton County jail inmates and employees were under lockdown on Saturday for the second time in the last month. This time Sheriff Ted Jackson confirms that more weapons were found among inmates on the high security 7th floor of the facility. According to a release from the Fulton County Jail:
The jail was on lockdown for several hours as staff conducted what officials described as an extensive search.
“This shakedown did result in the discovery of some contraband, including a shank, which is defined as a homemade weapon.” The search did not turn up any firearms, according to the release.
Although Atlanta police were called in to assist with the lockdown officials from the jail said no employees, civilians or visitors were harmed during the incident.
After the earlier lockdown of the Fulton County Jail Sheriff Ted Jackson said he expected more searches to be conducted as part of an ongoing investigation into contraband being smuggled into the jail continues. Earlier this month FBI agents arrested a sheriff’s deputy and three detention officers following a nearly year-long investigation.
