The Sports Kings: Meet The MLB Hall of Fame Class of 2011!
Major League Baseball’s Hall of Fame now includes Roberto Alomar and Bert Blyleven.
Alomar was one of the greatest second basemen in major league history, making 12 All-Star appearances and winning 10 Gold Gloves. He ended his career with over 2,700 hits, 210 home runs and more than 1,100 RBI.
Blyleven ended a long wait to get into the Hall of Fame. He’s been on the ballot since 1998 and became the first Dutch-born player to be enshrined.
Blyleven went 287-250 with 60 shutouts and 242 complete games in his 22-year big league career. He’s ninth on the all-time list in shutouts and fifth with 3,701 strikeouts. Blyleven was also an excellent big-game pitcher, going 5-1 in the postseason.
Former Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies general manager Pat Gillick, who produced three World Series champion teams as GM, was also inducted.
