ATLANTA (WAOK)- Piedmont Park stinks. City officials attribute the smell to the dozens of dead fish floating near the shores of Lake Clara Meer.

Authorities say recent temperature changes caused an algae bloom, depleting the oxygen in the water. The Piedmont Park Conservancy asked volunteers to help scoop up the fish. City workers were also at Piedmont today cleaning up the lake.

The stench has definitely effected the number of visitors who normally walk their dogs and run in the park. We saw workers treating the water today and cleaning up what is left of the fish. Piedmont Conservancy officials say this years fish kill is not as bad as it was the last time.

A similar situation occurred about two years ago when Piedmont was overwhelmed with the stench of dead fish just days prior to a Paul McCartney concert in the park.
