According to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office:On Tuesday, June 21, 2011 around 11:30 a.m., one inmate was injured by another inmate at the Fulton County Jail in northwest Atlanta. The two men had a dispute allegedly concerning commissary.  The circumstances that lead to the injury are currently under investigation.  The victim was shot in the hand once and was treated by medical personnel within the jail facility for the injury.  The name of the inmate injured in the attack has not been released.  A very small gun no larger than a small mobile telephone was found in the area.

The jail immediately went into lockdown mode as the investigation got underway. Non-essential personnel and
visitors in the lobby were evacuated from the building as a precaution.  The interim chief jailer called additional
agencies for security reasons.

The investigation determined that inmate Kortez Hurt is responsible for the attack.  Additional charges are expected to be filed against the attacker.  Hurt is 28 years old and his last address was in the city of Atlanta. This was his 14th incarceration at the Fulton County Jail.  His first stay was in the year 2000.

When contraband are brought into prisons/jails, it is usually brought in by the guards and support personnel…Who else will not be closely screened and will be assumed to be bringing in only work essentials but these guards and support personnel? Based on what I’ve heard about the shooter, he has a very long rap sheet and is headed for the graveyard if he does not use his time wisely while incarcerated…

This does not suprise. A man was killed at Calhoun prison, with two knives that looked store bought. The Guards are screened. Some things are brought in by new intake, prisoners from another prison. Even though they are strip searched, some things do get through. You can talk about wise men in the biblical days all you want, a wise man is any person that has nothing but time to figure things out. They are many in the chain gang.
