Nigerian Woman Charged with Modern Day Slavery

ATLANTA (WAOK)-Authorities accuse a 41-year-old Nigerian woman of forcing young women into slavery at her home in Suwanee with the promise of putting them through school.  Instead of fulfilling her promise, Assistant U.S. Attorney Susan Coppedge says Bidemi Bello beat them when they didn’t do their tasks involving work as nannies.

Attention was drawn to Bello when neighbors called police after hearing screams from inside the home.  An investigation began after one of the two victims escaped by calling a cab, then went to a local church for help.  Sentencing for Bello is set for August 24th.

Incidents like this is what’s fueling this negative backlash against hardworking Nigerians who are doing the right thing…I hope this woman is punished and this sends a strong message to others outside the community that this type of behavior will not be accepted…
