ATLANTA (WAOK)- Teach forAmerica will have 300 new teachers throughout metro Atlanta this fall.

The education organization, hosts a two- year program placing recent college graduates as teachers in low-income public schools, received 48,000 applications for only 5,200 slots across the country this year. 11 percent of the applicants are graduating seniors at Emory University and 5 percent are seniors at the University of Georgia.

The program in now in 34 states and Washington, D.C.

    What I see with programs like Teach for America, is teachers who will go through the program to payoff their student loans and get that teaching experience under their belt, but will not stay in the same district for the long haul..These students lives will continue to be in turmoil because they are used as ameal ticket..We only have to look at places like New Orleans and NYC to see this is not working…
