Atlanta School Board Chair Khaatim El Agrees to Step Down

Look for some major changes coming to the Atlanta Public School Board. School Board Chairman Khaatim El has agreed to step down from the chairmanship. El has been under fire for infighting on the board and for being an ineffective leader.  El made the move in an effort to unify the board and assure city leaders of the board’s intent to win back full accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). El has repeatedly said the board is serious about the status of APS accreditation and will do everything to regain full accreditation forAtlantaPublic Schoolstudents.

So far no date has been set for the transition to take place. The full board must first vote on the proposed change.  El is expected to remain on the board. It is possible former chair Brenda Muhammed or Reuben McDaniel will be the new leader.
