Atlanta (WAOK)-The MLB Beacon Awards Banquet honored the achievements of 3 individuals whose lives are emblematic of the spirit of the civil rights movement. The 2011 list included Academy Award Winner Morgan Freeman, who received the MLB Beacon of Hope; Grammy Award Winner Carlos Santana, who received the MLB Beacon of Change; and Baseball Hall of Famer Ernie Banks, who received the MLB Beacon of Life.  American Civil Rights Movement Leader and Co-Founder of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference Reverend Joseph Lowery delivered the keynote speech, and Baseball Hall of Famer and Braves Legend Hank Aaron was also  honored at the event.

The Banquet, was held Saturday, May 14, as one of many festivities eading up to the 2011 Delta Civil Rights Game between the Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies.

    Congratulations to all the winners, especially Santana. I’m a fan of his music and really look forward to him coming to Atl for the Memorial Day jazz festival in Piedmont Park
