MARTA Authorities Meet With Lawmakers

ATLANTA (WAOK)- State lawmakers met with MARTA officials Dr. Beverly Scott and Police Chief Wanda Dunham.

MARTA is being questioned about its safety after a gang attacked two Delta employees last month. Passengers on the train watched in horror as the two people were beaten by an estimated twenty youths. This came just days after another incident where a man held passengers hostage on a MARTA bus. Dr. Beverly Scott stated that the transit system is a reflection of Atlanta. She also stated that MARTA does recognize safety as a top priority.

Both Dr. Scott and Chief Dunham claim despite the recent incidents, there has been on overall decrease in MARTA crime.

This is why Atlanta is a big country town trying to play in the big leagues..Their is the infracture issues to contend with and the denial of the expansions of the rail and bus lines into the outer suburbs..Maybe now with the high gas prices, people will park their gas guzzlers and scream for a better more reliable public transportation system..
