Settlement Near in New Birth Lawsuits

Atlanta (WAOK) Sources close to both sides in the lawsuits filed against Bishop Eddie Long and New Birth Missionary Baptist Church indicate a settlement may be near. Mediation talks between attorneys for Long and the four plaintiffs have been on going since February. DeKalb County Judge Johnny Panos says he is ready for this to be done.

Recent reports indicated both sides wanted to resolve the case by Easter.

Four former members of New Birth and the Youngfellows Academy filed suit against Bishop Long last year charging among other things, that Bishop Long used his influence as their spiritual leader to coerce them into sexual relationships with him. According to the lawsuits, Anthony Flagg, Maurice Robinson, Jamal Parris, and Spencer LeGrande recounted separate incidents of Long providing expensive gifts, trips on private planes,  and other examples of “special” treatment that they say were used to entice them into sexual relationships with Long. Bishop Long has repeatedly denied the charges. If the case is successfully resolved through mediation the court files will be sealed and details of the case will not be made public.

I guess you have never been accused of anything you didn’t do. Unless you have walked a mile In his shoes stop judging people you haven’t met personally lok around your own house, block, work, church etc please pray for him the young men involved and the Church as a whole, people so easily give up on God when he is the only reason any of us were born. If we as people would unite what a world this would truly be.

Black people are such sheep. This man has clearly done wrong but yet the Black Community continues to turn a blind eye under the words of ” none of us are perfect”. Your right………but how many of us men have robbed banks, sold drugs or played around with young boys? Perfect? what is your definition of perfect. Not being perfect and breaking a legal or moral law are two different things. A dollar amount will be reached and the church and it’s members will pay for it! Hallla-lu-yay and pass the plate!

It is indeed a mess and very unprofessional to see this Bishop boast about his guilt in front of his congregation when the Judge told him not to. Now, with all of that being out in the open, the plaintiff Lawyer should pull out of the negotation and go to trail because Long broke his silent trying to get back at the youngmen his way. It is time this person be put in his place! Mr. Long has set the wrong example for all Bishops, or those calling themselves as such. I would stop the proceedings and let the public know what happen

Well Ken,This is not a black or white issue if so the same should be said about Catholic priest,or did you forget they are mostly white!!! this is a personal issue,as parents its our job to protect our kids. no one should have that much alone time with your child.seems we worship the preacher instead of jesus.we must understand that satins job is to steal, kill and destroy .and will use anyone to get the job done. But i will agree that this is a black eye in our community but not a reflection…..its really a shame the power we let money have.
