Officer Arrested On Sexual Battery Charges
ATLANTA (WAOK)- A Temple Police Officer has been arrested on sexual battery charges.
Officer Lee Powell was arrested on charges of sexual battery, cruelty to children and false imprisonment. Powell’s accuser is his ex-wife. She says that Powell fondled her and threw her on a couch, as her young child walked into the room. The woman claims she was only able to escape because her child’s entrance into the room provided her with a distraction. Powell has been placed on unpaid leave as the investigation continues. Attorney Mac Pilgram is representing Powell. According to Pilgram based on the history between his client and the alleged victim, he is positive his client is innocent.
There is speculation that Powell may have abused his powers as an officer. Evidence shows that it is likely Powell used the department’s database to run the tag numbers of cars parked outside of his ex-wife’s home. Powell was released on a $20,000 bond. His hearing is scheduled for May 5th.
