UCONN Reaches Final Four and Moore Goes For 3,000!!!

moore storylines UCONN Reaches Final Four and Moore Goes For 3,000!!!Atlanta native Maya Moore scored 28 points, including the 3,000th of her career, to lead top-seed Connecticut to a 75-40 win over Duke on Tuesday night and another trip to the Final Four.

UConn is now two victories away from winning its third straight national championship that would match the school’s own run from 2002-04 and Tennessee’s from 1996-98.

Next up is Notre Dame on Sunday in the national semifinals. The two Big East teams are plenty familiar with each other, having played three times this season already. UConn won all of those matchups including a 73-64 victory in the Big East tournament championship game.

Once again rural Storrs, Conn., is the center of the college basketball world as both the men’s and women’s teams are in the Final Four. It’s the third time in the past seven years that both programs have advanced this far with 2004 culminating in dual titles.

I couldn’t believe those numbers; when I saw the score of the game it made me wonder when women’s college basketball will achieve some sense of parity and competitive balance. 75-40 is a ridiculous score for an elite eight game, especially one that includes a 1st and 2nd seed.

I did some research to determine if this score is indicative of lack of parity or just an exception. There were some mixed results that were also somewhat surprising.
