The Atlanta Gang Problem

The recent conviction of a member of the “30 Deep Gang” on murder and armed robbery charges has highlighted the gang problem in Atlanta. Gang crime and violence is so pervasive in the city, Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard has three assistant district attorneys that do nothing but investigate and prosecute gang members. Assistant District Attorney Lance Cross says that the Atlanta gangs are a lot different than gangs in California. It’s a lot more difficult to get intelligence on them.  ADA Eleanor Ross says gangs in Atlanta have structure.

ADA Gabe Banks says witness intimidation is also a problem.

The district attorney’s office is currently tracking more than 100 active gangs in Atlanta and prosecutors have 70 open investigations involving gangs.
