Mayor Kasim Reed may soon be the new face of Atlanta Public Schools.
The mayor initially stated he was not interested in taking over the school system. However, recent information suggests that APS is ignoring the warnings from SACS, which has the Mayor thinking otherwise. Mayor Reed is now contemplating taking the necessary steps so he can appoint some members to the school board.
The Mayor’s plan to appoint school board members won’t be an easy task since school board members are elected to their positions. SACS put Atlanta Public Schools on probation in January after infighting among school board members and a cheating scandal on the CRCT standardized test.
