Nearly 70 years after Recy Taylor was raped by a gang of white men, leaders of the rural southeast Alabama community where it happened have apologized. The head of the town commission of Abbeville, Alabama told Taylor’s family that her attackers escaped justice because of racism and an investigation bungled by police. Taylor wasn’t there for the public apology. She is now 91 and lives in Florida.

    This woman deserves more than an apology from these criminals, and the State of Alabama for this violation of her person and civil rights…Their should be some monetary compensation paid to her since she is still experienceing post-traumatic anxiety from this assault…
