Dekalb Tax Raise Denied, Budget Cuts Approved

Dekalb County CEO Burrell Ellis had his proposal to raise property taxes denied.

Instead Dekalb Commissioners instituted a budget that eliminates thirty-three million dollars worth of spending. Commissioner Lee May made it clear that Dekalb County needs to be repaired and putting more money into it, is not the answer.

The budget received opposition, as service leaders fear layoffs and furloughs will result if  cuts are made.

The vote was 5 to 2  in favor of the budget.
