For 57 years Eddie Robinson roamed the sidelines as head coach of Grambling State University from 1941-1997.

Since Robinson retired in 1997 they’ve gone through several head coaches; former Grambling standout Doug Williams held the job from 1998-2003, Melvin Spears from 2004-2006, and most recently Rod Broadway from 2004-2010.

Spears is now the new head man at Alcorn State, Rod Broadway left the Tigers at the end of the 2010 season to become the head coach at North Carolina A&T, and now after 11 years Williams has returned to Grambling.

coach and doug Doug Williams Returns To Grambling... Under Williams Grambling won three straight Southwestern Athletic Conference titles.

The Tigers are 108-43 in the 13 seasons since Coach Robinson retired.

The former Grambling quarterback was the MVP of Super Bowl 22 with the Washington Redskins.

Williams is considered by many to be Robinson’s greatest achievement.

Williams was recently inducted into the Black College Football Hall of Fame, prior to Saturday’s induction and yesterday’s announcement the legendary QB joined the Sports Kings on News & Talk 1380 WAOK.

    I’m glad to see he is heading back home…Doug is from Baton Rouge, LA and this will put him closer to his home…I always make it a point to go for the Bayou Classis in NO thankgiving weekend between Southern Jaguars and Grambling…
