The DeKalb County school board has voted to approve a $73,000 raise for its interim superintendent. Ramona Tyson will now receive a salary of close to $240,000 which she says brings her more in line with superintendents in other metro districts. Tyson is not expected to apply for the permanent position and even if a permanent superintendent is found before her 18 month contract runs ends, she still gets to keep her high salary.
Some parents and board members are expressing their dislike of the agreement. Tyson became interim superintendent after former superintendent Crawford Lewis stepped down under an indictment for construction bid rigging. Oh, and I almost forgot, in addition to the salary Tyson will also receive a $24,000 expense account.
