More charges of corruption against the former Mayor and others……
The disgraced former mayor of Detroit Kwame Kilpatrick, his father, a friend and some former city officials are facing new federal charges. A 38-count indictment additionally names his father Bernard Kilpatrick, his friend Bobby Ferguson, the former head of the Detroit water department Victor Mercado, and former aide Derrick Miller. The indictments are the result of a six-year investigation into corruption in Detroit. The charges include racketeering, extortion, bribery and bid rigging. Kwame Kilpatrick is currently serving a prison sentence for violating parole.
Victor Mercado has been fired from BexarMet Water Board in Texas. Mercado was one of the five men indicted in the embezzlement case with former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.
