New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg says he’s worried about the effect of bedbug hysteria on the city’s reputation.
He says he doesn’t want anything to discourage people from visiting the city and he still feels like the city is safe to visit.
However, visitors to New York are still anxious about the bedbugs which have been found not just in hotels, but in clothing stores, movie theaters and city landmarks.
One Baltimore woman who usually takes her two children to New York to shop and see shows around the holidays says she may not do so this year. A Florida woman says she’s forfeiting the money she’s spent on reservations for a November visit.
As for New Yorkers themselves, one psychologist who treats anxiety disorders says she’s had people talking about it more and checking for signs of bedbugs.
