An historical black community in suburban New Orleans is putting its resources together to bring back the neighborhood it’s always known. Tina Douglas spoke to a young woman who is helping to tell the story.
Residents living in Ponchatrain Park owned 92 percent of their homes, but getting back has been difficult, due to a lot of red tape and a lack of resources. But with the help of actor Wendell Pierce who grew up in Ponchatrain Park, residents are rebuilding their homes. Though it’s a slow process, the wheels are turning for many to return. Atlanta journalist and New Orleans native, Chandra Thomas takes a look at the progress in a multimedia video project series on the rebuilding of Pontchatrain Park that will appear online on TheGrio.com starting Wednesday Aug. 25th. You can also hear Chandra talk about her project on Sunday Straight Talk with Public Affairs Director, Tina Douglas, this Sunday, August 22nd, at 5:00am on V-103 & News & Talk 1380
