Federal Government Paying for Summer Programs (ages 5-12)

The Georgia Department of Human Services has an initiative to assist families with paying for summer camp that is funded with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) money. The Summer Camp Program will provide assistance with the cost of care for children ages 5-12 (or through age 17 if there are documented special needs) attending a licensed or exempt summer camp program between May 21 – August 9, 2010. There are no fees or co-pays. The Program will pay up to $318 per week OR the summer camp’s published rate, whichever is less.
Applications must be received no later than May 15, 2010.

If completing online, click on the box designated for TCCA child care. As you complete questions regarding the type of service needed, you will see a prompt that will ask you if you are applying for TCCA Summer Camp Program.

Note: This program can apply to any summer program that is licensed to provide child care. This can include summer golf camps, gymnastic camps, art camps, camps at traditional day care centers, etc. Families have to meet eligibility requirements.

To qualify, the applying parent/legal guardian must:

  • Be an adult caring for dependent children ages 5-12
  • Be actively involved in either job training, vocational training, GED, technical school, college (full or part-time) or employed working at least 15 hours per week or more
  • If employed, have total family income fall within the income guidelines* See attached flyer (i.e. A family of four must earn $58,460 in annual income or less to qualify)
  • Select a Summer Camp program licensed or exempt summer camp provider
